How to Deep-Clean your Blender

Do you use your blender regularly?

If yes, then you need to clean it regularly too. A blender sees a lot of use in daily cooking and can be used to make anything from juices to smoothies. However, we often don’t clean it well which is why it can get damaged after sometime or might start altering the tastes of your blended mixtures. Cleaning your appliances is as important as cleaning your kitchen.

While cleaning a blender requires more effort as it is not like scrubbing a utensil or using a dishwasher but nonetheless it is important. Deep cleaning your blender will keep it hygienic as it will protect it from bacteria growth which can happen due to the food bits that get stuck in the cracks of the blender jar.

Things You will Need for Deep Clean

  • Dish Rag
  • Sponge
  • Mild Dish Soap
  • Baking Soda

Steps to Follow to Clean your Blender

If you want to clean your blender thoroughly then you will need to take your blender jar assembly apart and clean each part thoroughly. There could be dried up food bits stuck in the jar cracks which can help in bacteria growth so it is important you disassemble first.

Step 1: Switch off the Blender and Disassemble

It Start by turning off your blender and unplugging it from the socket. If you don’t unplug it then there are chances that you might suffer from an electric shock while cleaning the blender. Next, you need to disassemble your blender jar. Detach the jar assembly of your blender from the motor and then separate the lid from the jar. You will then need to carefully unscrew the base and keep away from the blender blades. Finally, remove the blade and the gasket seal of your blender.

Step 2: Wash your Blender Jar

Take a mild dish soap and wash your jar with it and then scrub it with the help of a sponge or a dish rag. Once the jar is thoroughly washed, rinse it with clean water and then dry it properly. If you don’t want to hand wash the jar then you can place it on the top rack of the dishwasher for automatic washing. However, always keep in mind that a hand wash is quick and efficient and reduces the risk of scratching on the surface.

Step 3: Wash the Other Attachments

Next, take warm soapy water to wash the other parts of your blender like blades, jar base, gasket seals, etc. Make sure that you scrub them properly with the dish rag and be careful while cleaning the blades. Once the parts are covered with soapy water, rinse them with clean water and then dry them carefully.

Step 4: Use Baking Soda and Water Mixture

Sometimes your blender might have some food bits stuck in it which could be difficult to clean with hand washing. In such cases, you can make a baking soda and water solution in a 1:1 ratio and then run one blending cycle with your assembled blender.

This will get rid of all the stuck food bits and will make it easier for you to hand wash your blender parts quickly. Once you have done this, you can disassemble your blender and follow the above-mentioned steps for a deep washing. Once done, you’ll  have a spic & span blender for frozen fruit smoothies and the margaritas you so crave.

Step 5: Clean the Blender’s Motor

Make sure that your blender is unplugged before you start cleaning its motor base. You shouldn’t put your motor base in water or in the dishwasher as this would damage the motor. Just take a damp cloth and then wipe down the motor base. Also, wipe the cord regularly and monitor it for any damages.

Step 6: Reassemble your Blender

Finally, once all the blender parts are thoroughly cleaned and dried up, you can reassemble them so that it can be used again. Plug your blender and check if it is working as expected. Now, you can store it in a safe place to ensure that it doesn’t get dirty quickly. If you use it regularly, then you might need to store it in an accessible place like your countertop. However, if you don’t use it
regularly then store it in one of the cupboards.
